Walim nightscapes | A timelapse short film

Yesterday I had a pleasure to shoot a few timelapse nightscapes at Walim, south of Poland. That was an amazing night. This was also the first real field test of my motorized timelapse dolly.

Shot on 5D and Sigma 20mm F/1.8 @ F/2.8, F/3.2. Additional shots (the noisy ones) on 550D and Canon 24-105 L F/4 all in RAW. Processed using Adobe AE CS4, Edited using FCP7 and graded using MBL.

Yes, this is a DIY solution based on a Meade Autostar controller and motors and a alu truss. I promised to post about the details, but it’s hart to find time recently. Thanks for a comment and reading my blog! Cheers!

  1. Looks cool man. The Sigma 20mm f1.8 is a lens that not to many people know about. Nice looking moco rig as well.

  2. Wow... amazing shots, very surreal :)

  3. Thanks guys! In fact Sigma is not a perfect choice for stars as you can't use it with full frame under F/3.2 and get at least agreable stars in the corners. The coma and astigmatism are awful. So you need to stop down.

  4. WoW!
    Very beautiful!

  5. Thank you Sebastian!

  6. VERY nice. I wish I had trees like that here where I live. How long is your dolly? Looks like at least 5 feet or more?

    Hi Patryk! ...Cool stars!!! :-]

-Dw about the noise its natural element of life!
It can be heard and seen and it belongs to this world. No matter what we do or try the noise is and will always b present everywhere. The more we try to fight it the more we will go wrong...(at least in sound!)
[Thanks to God that Sony has made Sbm to 44,1khz, but it still is a 44,1khz cd:s the popular format :-/.]
You have great talent and you are inspired!, so dw about some small pixelations or noises.
When the movie is been made in hands of an artist the idea will reveal to the "enlightened" openminded viewers
and the mission is accomplished :-]
